Domestic turkey
The domestic turkey is a large fowl and the same species as the wild turkey. All of the main domestic turkey varieties today descend from the turkey raised in central Mexico that was subsequently imported into Europe by the Spanish in the 16th century. Male turkeys make a gobbling sound and are called a tom or gobbler. Female turkeys make a clicking noise and are called hens. A mother turkey lays a batch of 10-17 speckled eggs and feeds her chicks after they hatch.
