Dunkleosteus (Triassic)
Dunkleosteus is a prehistoric shellfish, the major aquatic predator in the late Devonian period in North Africa, America, and Europe. It inhabited shallow waters near the coasts and presumably was capable of diving into deeper waters. The body length could reach up to 9 metres, however, the exact reptile size is still undefined. Given the body shape, it was a living shark size, had a shell carapace and was slow but extremely powerful. Scientists assume Dunkleosteus to be the first vertebrate creature capable of snapping and crushing a prey before swallowing.
