Escherichia coli
Escherichia coli are bacteria found in the environment, foods, and intestines of people and animals. E. coli are a large and diverse group of bacteria. Although most strains of E. coli are harmless, others can make you sick. E. coli enters the gut by fecal–oral transmission, but once present it generally does better than harm by colonizing the intestine and helping to prevent infection by pathogenic, or disease-causing, bacteria.
