Greater Rhea

Greater rhea

The greater rhea is a species of flightless bird native to eastern South America. Weighing 20–27 kilograms, the greater rhea is the largest bird in South America and the largest native, extant bird anywhere in the Americas. In the wild, the greater rhea has a life expectancy of 10.5 years. Rheas have unusually long wings for flightless birds. They use their wings like an airplane rudder balance while running and to dodge predators.
