James R. Thompson Center

The James R. Thompson Center, originally the State of Illinois Center, is a postmodern-style civic building designed by noted architect Helmut Jahn. It houses offices of the Illinois state government and serves as a secondary capitol for the State of Illinois in the most populated city and county of the state. It is considered one of the most significant postmodern buildings in the city of Chicago. The building opened in May 1985 as the State of Illinois Center.
