Kvasir

Kvasir

Kvasir (in Germanic-Scandinavian mythology, a creature that arose from the saliva of the Aesir and the Vanir, who performed the ceremonial mixing of saliva in a bowl at the conclusion of the peace. Probably originally personified a hop drink obtained as a result of the process of fermentation (brogue, beer, kvass, etc.). In the Circle of the Earth in the Ynglinga Saga it refers to the Vans. The kvasir was so wise that he could answer any question. Having reconciled the Aesir and the Vanir, he set out to teach the people wisdom, but they listened little to the words of the little sage. So Kvasir went to Svartalfaheim. There he met the two Dwerg brothers, Fjalar and Galar. They killed Kvasir and made a drink from his blood. Everyone who tasted it at least once became a skilled poet, for which the drink was nicknamed "the honey of poetry." The brothers convinced the Aesir that Kvasir died of his own wisdom.
