Parasaurolophus
Parasaurolophus is a dinosaur of Hadrosaurids or duck-billed family that inhabited Canada and USA marshlands and grass plains during late Cretaceous period about 76–73 million years ago. The name genus is derived from the phrase "near crested lizard”. Skeletal fossils fragments and a skull were recovered in 1920 near the Red Deer River in Alberta, Canada. An adult specimen (Parasaurolophus walkeri) weighed about 2.5 tones and was 9.5 metres in length, including 160 cm skull length. The genus is known for its beautiful cranial tubular crest which protruded from the upper jaw as a beak and projected upward forming a streched curved anvil presumably used for noise producing. The reptile breathed out through the tubes producing a specific sound to attract females or to communicate.
