Preparations for a Sacrifice, Roman fragment from an architectural relief
The sacrificial attendants lead the bull to the altar for his sacrifice/taurobolium. The bull is bedecked in a crescent-shaped shield or pelta-shaped frontalia with a garland of laurel. On the right, 2 sacrificial attendants [unclothed on top] leading the bull to the altar. Next is the musical attendant (a tibicen) playing the flute (tibia) & the toga-clad priest-Roman 2nd c. AD
