Scarce swallowtail
The scarce swallowtail is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. It is also called the sail swallowtail or pear-tree swallowtail. Despite the name "scarce swallowtail", this species is quite common. The scarcity of United Kingdom migrants is responsible for the English vernacular name. Iphiclides podalirius has a wingspan of 60–80 millimetres in males, of 62–90 millimetres in females. It is a very large distinctive butterfly.
