Seattle is a seaport city on the West Coast of the United States. A major port of entry and an air and sea gateway to Asia and Alaska, Seattle lies alongside Puget Sound, a deep inland arm of the northern Pacific Ocean. The Seattle area was inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.
