Villa Planchart
Gio Ponti’s Planchart Villa in Venezuela is an icon of mid-century modern design. "Your house will be like a big butterfly." So wrote Gio Ponti, in a letter to art collector couple Anala and Armando Planchart. For the interior and exterior to converge seamlessly, Ponti extended the diamond floor pattern from the Living Room into the Tropical Dining Room. These blurred boundaries between architecture/decoration and indoors/outdoors can also be viewed in terms of camouflage, like that of a butterfly. All materials were shipped from Italy – the carpentry, marble and custom furniture that defines the villa travelled to Venezuela by boat.
