Compound eyes of black soldier fly
Compound eyes of the adult black soldier fly are sensitive to blue, green and ultraviolet light. The violet stripes on the eyes of a black soldier fly are caused by pigments that screen different parts of the eye. Most insects have compound eyes, which are curved arrays of microscopic lenses. Each tiny lens captures an individual image, and the mosquito's brain puts all of the images together to achieve peripheral vision without the insect having to move its eyes or head.
